May 8th 2008

It's official. My brain has turned to complete and total mush. It is taking everything in my being not to keel over in this computer chair and pass out on my keyboard. Between this internship, working 3 days a week, end of semester and babysitting..I haven't sat down to take a breath in almost three weeks. I had my final two tests today so I don't have to study for 4 months which is a weight off the shoulders. I also managed to somehow finish one of my final papers and my humanities research project tonight(I haven't stopped typing in 5 hours) so now I'm left with two 1200 word papers. I should feel some relief after all the work I did tonight but I really don't...probably because the two papers I've been dreading the most are still lingering in my mind. I have 3 days to write one of them and 4 days to write the other.

Stew got accepted into flight school in New Brunswick so he's leaving this Saturday at 10. It sucks because his birthday is next weekend and I was really looking forward to seeing the look on his face when he opened up his gift. I guess I'll have to send it through the mail. I'm freakishly excited to take over the basement and create a second room for myself though. Finally a place for everyone to go when my friends are here..and there won't be boxers and old beer bottles lying around! Nonetheless I'm going to miss the guy and our random hour long hockey discussions. He'll be gone until Thanksgiving, unless we drive down to NB which I'm fine with because I adore long car rides. My parents? Not so much.

Concert season is starting. I have 5 concerts marked down for this summer and I'm expecting a ton more which means I'm going to have to work more then I want to. I'm at Matthew Good(May 30th), The New Cities(June 5th), Hedley(July 2nd), Hedley(July 3rd) and Faber Drive & AAR(August 26th). Should be a great summer. I'm hoping to go to Toronto for a weekend with the girls and maybe up north for a week with the gang. We'll see!!

Conference Finals

East:
Philadelphia Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins

West:

Dallas Stars vs Detroit Red Wings

I have to go with the Flyers in the East because I adore Marty Biron more then anyone on those two teams and I've always liked the Flyers. Their fans drive me insane sometimes but everyone knows they're just as passionate and obnoxious as us Habs fans and I know they're super supportive of their team so I have to go with them there. Plus I don't want to see Crosby in the final...or anywhere near the cup for that matter.

In the West I'm obviously going with Detroit. The fact that I never liked their team AND that Mike Ribeiro plays for the Stars would be a pretty good reason. On top of that they eliminated the Sharks so there's no way I'm cheering for them. I also want to see Lidstrom lift the cup and put aside anymore of this "A team with a euro captain cannot win the cup" nonsense.

May 4th 2008

May 4th 2008
9:30 p.m. May 3rd. It's over for 2007-2008.

It's strange. I expected to be more upset when the habs season finally came to an end but for some reason I'm not. I mean I'm sad that I have no more hockey to watch until October but I think it's because I'm just so ridiculously proud of what this team accomplished this year. I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined that we would be ending the regular season in first place or that we would make it to the second round of the playoffs. Even then we played an amazing series against the Flyers, the bounces just didn't go our way. I'm so proud of those boys and it's amazing to know that it's only going to get better from here. Once Price and the other rookies have some more experience this team is going to be great. I'm looking forward to that more then anything. I'm not too worried about the offseason. A nice UFA would be great but I'm not too worried about losing anyone of great importance. Smokes was awesome this year even if he took some heat but it's time for Chipchura to come play for us. As much as I heckle the guy, Brisebois was great this year and it was nice to see him end his career in Montreal. I honestly couldn't care less where Ryder goes & I have a feeling we'll be re-signing Streit so I'm not too worried.

Last night was a lot of fun, losing aside. Jenn, Melissa & Laura came by for a girls night and we made pizza and blared Hedley and got pumped up for the game. It was a lot of fun until the third period when they scored the goal to make it 5-4 and then 6-4 on that empty netter. I think the basement was silent. There were tears. Not going to lie. Especially when the boys saluted the crowd and Carbo was clapping. After that we picture whored a bit and watched Juno and passed out. This morning we hung out for a few hours and then everyone left. I'm so excited for next season because I'll be spending it with those four. It's going to be great.

May 2nd 2008

May 2nd 2008
It all comes down to tomorrow night. Part of me believes that we'll win tomorrow..after that I don't know. I don't see use getting eliminated at home & I'm expecting a huge game from Price. I'm having the girls over for a Girls Night to get away from our piles of homework and be stress free for at least one night. Hopefully our season doesn't end tomorrow because that would definitely be a huge downer on the evening.

I had to deal with a real jerk today. As a girl who watches hockey..and is actually insanely knowledgeable about the sport..I've had to deal with a lot of guys who can't seem to accept the fact that girls DO watch sports. I can't even say how many times I've had people say, "Wow..you know a hell of a lot..FOR A GIRL" or my personal favorite. "You sure know what you're talking about...I thought you'd just be watching for the guys." I've learned to deal with remarks like that because I know that I can argue the hell out of any subject involving hockey just as well as any guy out there. Well today I had to hold back big time from telling off a customer. I'm generally a very patient person and non-confrontational but when someone makes a comment like the guy did today..I lose it. I was standing at my cash talking with some girl who told me that she had been a huge Habs fan for years now. Well this guy walks in, a huge Boston fan, and gets involved in our conversation. He goes "Habs are going to lose. Better deal with it" and she goes "We've come back before. We can do it again." and he goes "You habs fans don't know how to deal with loss. You're the worst fans in the world" and she responds with "We can handle loss...but we haven't lost yet so why do I have to stop believing?" Anyways, she told him off a little bit more and then left. Then the asshole turns to me and goes "What the fuck does she know?! She's probably been watching it for like a month." I almost knocked him out. It took EVERYTHING in my being to hold back from leaning across the counter and smashing his head in. If that had been a guy instead of a girl I guarantee he would never have made that comment. Some of these guys are such ignorant pigs. I understand that there's a good handful of girls that DO watch it just for the guys..or just to attract guys by pretending they know what's going on..but then you have a good handful of those of us who know exactly what's going on and who are JUST as passionate as the next guy. UGHHH. /end rant
