Unreal.
My ears are still ringing, I have no voice and my right arm now has muscles in it thanks to some intense towel waving. I always assumed that my first playoff game would be my best experience ever. It was pretty amazing..but it just can't compare to what I experienced last night. Rioting aside, this city is amazing and I'm so proud to be a part of all this. I honestly don't know what people who don't watch hockey do..how can they miss out on all of this? This city has come together, everyone is talking to everyone on the streets..there's no differences. The only thing on our minds is hockey and that unites us all as a city. Walking into the Bell Center yesterday I can honestly say I didn't feel confident at all. I was thinking the worst and I know I shouldn't have been but I couldn't help it. Before the game Lisa, Stew, Laura & I were so quiet, trying to understand that our hockey season could be over in just a few hours. The anthem was amazing as usual, except we all got a little irritated that he didn't let just the crowd sing seeing as how it was deafening in there.
The first period was pretty uneventful & very tense. The Bruins outplayed us but thanks to Price we came out of the 1st up 1-0. The rest of the game just went our way. Halfway through the second we scored the goal that made it 2-0 and the place went absolutely insane. I have not been more relieved to see that goal light all season. That goal had an amazing impact on the crowd. During the next commercial break, while the players were at the bench, the crowd got on their feet and started with the OLE chant and the towel waving right until the commercial break ended. I've never been so entertained during a break before, it was unreal(as I will continue to say). Third period we scored 3 more goals to win it 5-0. The crowd was deafening. At a certain point it just becomes one noise and you cannot hear anything. It's the best feeling in the world haha. I remember when we bought the Game 7 tickets. None of us really cared, none of us thought the Bruins would take us to 7 games but I thank god we got those tickets. The crowd was a hundred times louder then Game 1, which I did NOT think was physically possible and the atmosphere was out of this world. I love this city. I love this team. Right at the end of the game, as they had done on April 5th, they saluted the crowd and everyone went insane again.
After the game we could barely walk outside the Bell Center. No one was moving. It was just a giant mosh pit of people cheering and chanting and high-fiving. I hugged about 15 completely random people and high-fived at least 40. We went to go stand higher up to look down at the streets where car horns were not stopping and people were getting out of cars to hug people running in the streets. There was even a homeless guy running around with a Habs towel. Then we went back to the party and chatted with tons of different fans and just took in the win. We left before any of the rioting started, and I'm thankful for that. The image I left with will always be in my mind.
