I fucking love Habs fans. I don't care who hates us or who finds us obnoxious. When we all get together..something special happens. I went to the final game of the year with Stew yesterday against the Leafs and it was so intense. The game was pretty boring seeing as how it meant nothing. Leafs were out, Habs were in. The best parts were the very beginning and the very end. Right before the game they gave Kovy the Molson Cup for the year 007-2008 and the crowd serenaded him with Kovy chant for about 3 minutes and he stood there smiling and saluting the crowd. It was great. Then with 13 seconds left McCabe and Stewart(who was unreal in his first game in the NHL) dropped the gloves and the fight was pretty equal, and as McCabe left the ice he waved sarcastically to all the Habs fans and I was laughing so hard. There was a family of Leaf fans in front of us and my brother goes "HAVE FUN GOLFING" and the father turns around and goes "YEAH WELL HAVE FUN NOT MAKING IT PAST THE FIRST ROUND. 4 GAMES MAX!" and my brother looks at him and goes "....atleast we're in the playoffs?" and the guy just started throwing out all these insults and I was laughing so hard at his sad attempts to make us upset. It was a great game to be at JUST to taunt the Leaf fans, which is clearly one of the most enjoyable things in the world.
With about 90 seconds left in the game, the crowd was on their feet and the place was absolutely deafening. It was goosebump worthy. The entire team went to center ice and raised their sticks to the crowd and the place erupted again. I haven't clapped that hard all season, aside from the Rangers game but this was different. The crowd kept going right through the three stars. Kovy was the 3rd star and once again the place went insane. Higgins was the first star which was AMAZING. He scored 2 goals which made the entire game that much better. On my way out people kept pointing to me and screaming "HIGGGINSSS!!!" it was awesome haha.
After the game the Bell Center was insane. Leaf and Habs fans were squaring off all over the place. Habs fans were being fucking obnoxious which was hilarious and the Leaf fans were trying to insult them somehow but nothing was fazing us. There was a strong LEAFS SUCK and 67 chant going in the halls and a lot of golf references haha. When we stepped outside, we were in back of the Bell Center at this point, cars were slowing down and honking and the Habs fans were singing in the streets. Best part of the whole night was this one Leaf fan that had a GO LEAFS GO banner and he was running through traffic and a Habs fan ran out, grabbed it and threw it to the ground and everyone started the OLE chant.
I don't care what anyone says, this city is amazing. I'm happiest when I'm sitting surrounded by 21,273 people with the exact same passion as me. I can only imagine what the playoff game is going to be like for me on Thursday. BRING ON THE BRUINS!!!
